We’re now on the final stretch of the summer transfer window and Chelsea still need to get some business over the line. While Antonio Conte appears fairly content with the Blues’ starting XI, the west London outfit require extra depth if they’re to successfully defend the Premier League title and hold their own in the Champions League this season.
The engine room appears to be a key department; tellingly enough, just two games into the new season, Conte was forced to field one of his most important defenders, David Luiz, in midfield against a divisional rival away from home due to injuries and suspensions.
Recent reports have suggested there are two English options on the Blues’ radar in Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater, so we asked Chelsea supporters earlier this week which player they’d prefer their club to sign – the 22-cap creator or the 5 foot 10 Leicester City man.
And according to our poll, the majority are backing a swoop for Barkley, with 64% voting in the Everton playmaker’s favour. Chelsea will have to up their offer, however; according to BBC Sport, the Toffees have just rejected a £25million bid from the Stamford Bridge outfit.
