Hungary's clash with the Netherlands was suspended after their coach Adam Szalai collapsed on the bench. The Hungarian staff, and players on the pitch, immediately rushed to his aid and the fixture was paused so he could receive treatment. Having done so – he was transported to a hospital in Amsterdam and is in a stable condition – VAR reviewed the previous passage of play and the Netherlands were awarded a penalty. Wout Weghorst stepped up to take it, scored, and celebrated with a knee slide, drawing widespread condemnation given the events that had transpired mere minutes prior.
