Nick Selman top-scored with 66 as Glamorgan moved into the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-finals with a thrilling one-run victory over Somerset at Taunton.The visitors posted 183 for 6 after losing the toss, opener Selman leading the way and Colin Ingram making 35. Max Waller and Paul van Meekeren were the pick of the Somerset attack, both bowling tight spells.In reply, Somerset looked on course for victory as a brilliant 87 for Johann Myburgh left them need only 22 off three overs. But Marchant de Lange produced two fine overs at the death to swing the match in his team’s favour.Glamorgan were given a flying start by Selman, who was 47 not out at the end of the six-over Powerplay, with his side having raced to 64.Selman went to a 26-ball half-century, while Aneurin Donald (33) offered good support, striking four boundaries in his 29-ball contribution to an opening stand of 87 in nine overs.De Lange gives Croft the shakes
Robert Croft, Glamorgan coach: “I’m still shaking. With four overs to go we were dead and buried, but resilience is something we are trying to build and it was there for everyone to see.
“We know Marchant de Lange is a match-winner. He had kopped a few in his early overs, but at the end he showed great character and it was good captaincy to keep him back for that time.”
Johann Myburgh, Somerset:”We were looking good for the two points and I like to think that if I had hung around to the end we would have scraped home.
“I give credit to the bowler for a good yorker and from there things slipped away from us, which could be costly.
“But there is still one game left. We need to be at our best against Hampshire and see where that takes us.”
Somerset’s bowling improved in mid-innings, with Waller, Roelof van der Merwe and Overton putting a brake on the scoring rate. Only 43 were added off seven overs.Selman was stumped advancing slightly to sweep Waller and Chris Cook quickly had his stumps scattered by van Meekeren. But Ingram was still there and 17 came off the 17th over, bowled by van der Merwe.Graham Wagg boosted the Glamorgan score with a 16-ball cameo that saw him score 28, but it looked no more than a par total on a good pitch.Somerset made a poor start in reply, Steve Davies falling to the first ball he received for a third duck in four T20 innings, and opening partner Lewis Gregory picking out the fielder at deep square with a pull shot off Wagg, having made 18.At the end of the Powerplay, Somerset were 52 for 2. Dean Elgar then raised the tempo with a big six off Ingram as he and Myburgh repaired the early damage, adding 61 in 6.1 overs.Elgar had moved to 24 when undone by a slower ball from Michael Hogan which he lofted to mid-off. James Hildreth played a poor shot to be caught at short third-man off Wagg, but Myburgh went to his half-century with a six over mid-wicket off Ingram.The South African had faced 33 balls and hit 5 fours and 2 sixes. With Jim Allenby lending solid support, Myburgh played beautifully, picking the balls to attack and pushing singles of the others.Glamorgan sensed a chance when Allenby was run out for 21 in the 18th over, which saw de Lange bowl Myburgh, who had hit 11 fours and 2 sixes.Eight were needed off the final over, but Peter Trego played and missed twice and a boundary off the final ball wasn’t enough.
