United were expected to sanction a permanent sale this summer, with Marseille winning that recruitment race. There was opposition to that deal from certain sections of a loyal fan base at Stade Velodrome, but a big-money move has been pushed through.
WHAT GREENWOOD SAID
Greenwood has been in friendly action for his new club, with the target being found in a pre-season clash with Pau FC. The one-cap England international is hoping to build a bright future in Marseille and has posted a “brick by brick” message on social media.
WHAT NEXT?
United have a buy-back option on Greenwood, which is unlikely to be taken up, while also including a sell-on clause in the terms that took a product of their academy system away from Old Trafford. Greenwood has signed a five-year contract at Marseille through to 2029.
