Jesse Lingard has reacted to the accusation that he “destroyed Manchester United’s culture” alongside Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.

The Old Trafford academy graduate took in 232 appearances for the Red Devils, becoming an England international along the way, and often played with a smile on his face. He was never afraid to have fun on the pitch – much like World Cup winner and close friend Pogba.

Questions have, however, been asked of whether the likes of Lingard, Pogba and Rashford took things seriously enough – with United enduring alarming regression as supposed superstars failed to perform on a consistent basis.

Lingard has now picked up a social media post from late 2024 in which he stands accused of destroying the culture at Old Trafford that the likes of legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, alongside a host of Premier League and Champions League title winners, helped to build.

Lingard said: “Please explain how me, Paul and Marcus destroyed Manchester United’s culture?” He went on to say after receiving some positive responses to his question: “More love than negativity. United through and through the club will always have a very special place in my heart.”
