Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has confirmed that young striker Dominic Solanke will leave this summer and Liverpool are favourites to land his signature, The Sun reports.
What’s the word?
Growing frustrated with limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge and not having his contract demands from earlier in the season met by Chelsea, 19-year-old starlet Dominic Solanke is ready to walk this summer and join Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
The teenager has not featured at all for the Blues this season and only has one senior appearance to his name, which came in a Champions League tie way back in 2014 that made Solanke the youngest player to feature for Chelsea in Europe’s elite competition.
With Diego Costa and Michy Batshuayi ahead of him, Solanke’s opportunities in West London continue to look bleak and it means the Blues will once again lose a top-talent after failing to hand him the opportunities he requires.
What was said?
Speaking about Solanke’s likely exit this summer, Antonio Conte said:
“I think (he will leave), I am not sure, but I think this is his will. I don’t know, I should have a crystal ball to tell his future, I wish for him and his family the best.”
Why Liverpool?
Liverpool are the favourites to snap Solanke up this summer, with the Reds likely to have to pay around £8m to Chelsea in compensation, as Jurgen Klopp looks to shore-up his attacking options with an addition that could spell the end for Daniel Sturridge.
Solanke would have the opportunity to feature regularly for Liverpool, who have a slot available for a striker within their squad, and the Reds will boast one of the most exciting young attackers within English football to develop in the coming years.
Liverpool aren’t the only side interested though as Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic are also keen, although they won’t be able to match the financial package that Liverpool can put on the table.
