Celtic could make a move for Copenhagen defender Peter Ankersen, according to The Scottish Sun.
What’s the story?
Experienced right-back Mikael Lustig left the Hoops this summer upon the expiration of his contract, making the switch to Belgian side Gent.
The Hoops are now on the hunt for a player who can become a first-choice pick in the position and The Scottish Sun reckon Ankersen is someone they are keeping an eye on.
The paper say that Ankersen is set to leave the Danish champions and Celtic are aware of his availability, albeit currently weighing up all their options.
How can Celtic improve next season? A Hoops fan tells us how in the video below…
Lustig’s replacement?
Ankersen has both the experience and trophy winning pedigree to be a viable choice when it comes to the right-back slot at Celtic.
He’s accomplished a lot at Copenhagen since arriving in 2015, making 175 appearances in total while winning the league three times and the Danish Cup twice, a very impressive haul in just four seasons with the club.
Having the mentality to see a league season through at that level is crucial for Celtic when determining who to go for this summer, with the demands on Neil Lennon’s side likely to be huge next term as they go for a ninth league title in a row.
In Europe too he has great experience, making 61 appearances in the UEFA Europa League and Champions League. With Celtic looking to fight on both fronts, again having a player who is comfortable at that level is crucial.
In terms of available candidates to replace Lustig this summer, the Hoops couldn’t do much better than make a move for the Danish international.
