Earlier this week, Leeds United officially completed the signing of Jean-Kevin Augustin, with the striker joining the Whites on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.
Rising through the ranks with French outfit Paris Saint-Germain, the 22-year-old quickly found his way to Germany in 2017, where he ended up playing 67 games for RB Leipzig, netting an impressive 20 goals and providing eight assists.
Call yourself a Leeds expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?
Not only that but he was also the top scorer in France’s conquest of the UEFA Under-19 European Championship in 2016, netting five times in six games and outscoring his compatriot, Kylian Mbappe.
And by the looks of it, Marcelo Bielsa truly is getting a wonderful player for his squad and someone who can grow into a potential star at Elland Road.
Interestingly enough, a quote from his former teammate and current RB Leipzig captain, Willi Orban, suggests how highly he was regarded in Germany and alludes to two of his best qualities.
Here’s what he said about the youngster, as was quoted by Bundesliga.com:
“He’s an extraordinary player. He’s quick and composed in front of goal.”
Of course, this gives us some insight into what kind of a striker Bielsa is getting at Leeds while underlining the respect he commanded from an outstanding teammate.
Having played next to the likes of Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic back at Paris Saint-Germain, and alongside Mbappe for France, it’s safe to say that this young talent has had an excellent environment to prosper and develop.
And now that he’s in Bielsa’s hands, the future could look bright for the Championship promotion hopefuls.
